Thread: Hacking BT Infinity HG612 Openreach Modem

  1. #1

Thumbs up Hacking BT Infinity HG612 Openreach Modem

Not exactly sure where to post this but as you get the HH3.0 with Infinity, i`ll stick it here

The HG612 Openreach Modem you get with Infinity has been unlocked to give access to the UI and all settings

Disabling QoS gives an instant 1meg upload boost and there are plenty of other settings you can tweak along with being able to see your line sync stats etc, run scripts to pull graphs and charts every 1 min for monitoring and so on

You can even use it as a router by changing a few port settings if you so wish

Unlocked Firmware (Check back of Modem for your version)

Once unlocked, you can set the Modems IP to whatever you like, wire a second Ethernet cable to its LAN 2 Port and have UI access to your Router and the Openreach Modem at the same time

The unlocked Firmware images are stock I am told, with the exception that the firewall level has been lowered from 'BT' to 'Standard' to allow LAN 2 Port access to the GUI

(Maybe PsiDOC or Mods would like to create a new sub forum for this ? )

    Enjoy

It doesn't have a USB port. I believe you're mistaking the battery backup (BBU) port for one.

I have unlocked my HG612 Openreach router and can access the GUI fine but I am unable to connect to the internet via LAN1 or LAN2 when i plug my laptop directly into the HG612.

I have configured the HG612 to authenticate via PPPoE and it appears to be connected on the web GUI but i just cant seem to connect to the internet via LAN1 or LAN2.

Basically i want to have the HG612 as the PPPoE router, I will then use LAN2 to connect to my PS3 and LAN1 to connect to my HomeHub3 which i will setup as a wireless access point only (i have set HH3 and HH2 to work in AP mode before no problem). I have connected the HH3 to the HG612 and setup the HH3 succesfully as an AP which enables me to connect via wifi to the HH3 and then onward to the HG612 but the wifi connection icon on my laptop shows limited connectivity as well as when i connect directly into LAN1 or LAN2 on the HG612.

i have followed these instructions to no avail

Once unlocked, make sure you are plugged into the modem via LAN 2 not LAN 1
and login at http://192.168.1.1 with admin/admin as the username/password.

On the left, go to Basic > WAN
Under Port Binding untick LAN 1 and LAN 2
    Connection Mode: Route
    Connection Type: PPPoE
    User name: Your FTTC username
    Password: Your FTTC password

    Click on Submit

The modem will now handle the PPPoE connection.

To have it give out IP address via DHCP, go to Basic > LAN on the left
and simply tick the Enable DHCP server box, then click on Submit.

does anyone have all the details i require to enable the HG612 to do the PPPoE authentication and to enable LAN1 and LAN2 as internet access ports as its driving me nuts!

hi detection, that isnt actually the issue, i can actually connect using the inbuilt pppoe on the hg612

the problem is i cannot connect my laptop to the internet via the lan port on the hg612, both lan1 and lan2 when i follow the instructions i quoted earlier.

what i want to do is have the hg612 use pppoe not the hh3, i then want to use both lan ports on the hg612 to provide internet connectivity, is this possible and if so what exactly do i need to do in the config of the hg612 (i am fine setting up the hh3 as an access point)

I haven't tried using it as the primary router yet, so not sure of the exact steps, but did you know you can click on each of these lines too to edit the connection preferences for each

Also under BASIC > LAN are settings to enable DHCP etc

If you logged into it once at least and did not flash it again, then it should be unlocked

I had problems with firefox, try using IE and make sure there are no other routers or machines with the same IP address 192.168.1.1 or you`ll get a conflict
