    Can't navigate to flash drive?

    Hi there

Thanks for all the help and guides - I've got a problem trying to unlock my Dad's old router, though.

I've flashed a USB stick and inserted it into the homehub 2.0a, but when I try to navigate to \\192.168.1.253 Windows tells me that it can't be found.

I'm connected fine to the router itself via ethernet cable and the admin pages tell me that the USB flash drive is found and should be accessible - but I can't access it.

    Any ideas?

I'm trying to unlock it at the moment without having the broadband cable plugged in from the wall socket; also software version of the router appears to be 8.1.H.U. Could either of these be the issue?

If it ends in a U then it has the latest firmware and we don't have a hack for it yet.

Work is going on for a software hack or you can use the JTAG method.

Ah, okay - many thanks for the reply.

Always the same - I loaned someone my spare Orange router, and now that my trusty old Belkin model is going on the blink I discover that his wife kindly decided to throw it away! What's that saying about no good deed going unpunished?

Hmmmm an 8.1.H.U. haven't played with that one yet. So I am guessing they have closed the loophole we use to exploit root access. I did wonder about this update as the 2A 8.1.H.J firmware is pretty much sorted and didn't require any more work so it was probably BT clamping down on us.
On the 2A this could be a difficult one and we may have to revert to JTAG I'm afraid. Will look into this when I get time.

I just noticed you're in Pembrokeshire... I have a 2.0a with the same issue as the OP, so assume it's on the U firmware too.
It's no use to me unhacked, so if it helps, I can lend it to you to play with if you like.

According to the tutorial you have to go back to .17 to get it to work.

Hi just rechecked but there is an advisory to downgrade to .17 then up to .18 as .17 is an unknown entity... thanks for the comment though
