Firmware upgrade downgrade discussions / questions / success stories.

Following on from the tutorial here:
    http://www.psidoc.com/showthread.php/448-Easily-amp-safely-downgrade-your-Hub-2B-from-4.7.5.1.83.3.18-so-you-can-unlock-it.
I have put up this thread for any firmware upgrade / downgrade discussions.

Basically all we are flashing a firmware that hasn't had the sys folder loophole fixed.
It's a standard and genuine BT firmware that I managed to find in the deepest darkest recesses of internet land and we are using the router's hidden firmware upgrade page to do it so it's a standard firmware change using the correct method.
I will admit the firmware version 4.7.5.1.83.3.17 is a bit of strange one as I don't think it was ever released pubilcally by BT, however it does the job for us very nicely and we can always revert back to 3.18 when the router is unlocked.
1 small craveat though. When I tried to upload my bthub2.conf file from 3.18 onto the 3.17 it threw it out saying it wasn't for that router, however after unlocking the router and re upgrading to 3.18 I was able to use my old bthub2.conf again and the one from 3.17. Bit of an oddball that's worth noting.

    Happy Unlocking!

Wow is all I have to say, took me 15 mins tops to download all files neccessary from both threads, downgraded the firmware and bam BTHomehub 2.0B with firmware version 4.7.5.1.83.3.18 now works with the Utility Warehouse and Talktalk ISP.
No problems with either of the tutorials. Many thanks again.

I have make downgrade to version 4.7.5.1.83.3.17.

Then I have make quick unlock.

My HH2B now works with mine ISP!!!!

But I am afraid that it will again be updated to version 4.7.5.1.83.3.18.

How I can forbid automatic updating firmware?

Make sure you format the usb stick first and run as Administrator by right clicking on file and Run as Administrator option. I had the same error with one of my sticks, all I did was use another and formated first.

Well, Did Everything and had a lot of issues trying to Connect using Kitty but just as was going to give up it worked. Slight oddity in instructions made me double check everything again as on Web the instructions say "2.7: conf reconf 1" and on text file "2.7: flash commit" and used the 1st one and seemed to work. Still have no understanding of what the SSH is about @ the end and why it needed to be done but it did work. Only other issue I have seen is that Orange want to use PPPoE but the router wants to use PPPoA and can not fine anywhere to change this but for now it appears to be working well. Thanks for the instructions and hard work Mr Psi.

    Hello to all!
Today I have make full unlock HH2B
After several hours my HH2B was automatic updated to the version 4.7.5.1.83.3.18.
    After updating works normally.
One problem is available - This HH2B Phone does not define number of entering local calls. HH2A perfectly defines all entering calls - numbers. How to correct this problem?
Whether it is possible on HH2B to adjust SIP?
    Many THANKS to PSIDOC!

I bought a brand new sealed HH from eBay for 99p + postage and it turned out to be a 2B. I had already unlocked my HH2A successfully using the methods and files on the site ( muchas gracias Psi). The 2B unlock went well once I remembered to open DiskImage as admin (W7). Amazingly the disk mounted quickly first time (step 1.9)

However, I couldn't delete the fw files. I was using a printout of the text file from the download and finally found the lack of <conf> in the command lines in 2.5 and 2.6. The web instructions appear OK.

My other problem was step 1.3 - no joy at all. I solved this by opening a command prompt window and typing "explorer \\192.168.1.254\". This opened a window showing usb1.

Both this and my HH2A work perfectly on Talktalk (Tiscali) and give much better wifi coverage than my Belkin.

S/W is ...83.3.5 on the 2B. Will this be updated by bt to .18 even tho I'm on Talktalk?

I'm only going to use one router, so which one?

    Cyclops

Personnally I prefer the 2A but they can have more stability problems than the 2B also some people find the 2B gives them a better ADSL connection on poor signal areas than the 2A.

    Pretty much swings and roundabouts

You can turn off the update not sure on the commands but it is section 31 in the openrg config manual found here http://www.psidoc.com/showthread.php...uration-manual
