  Hub 2
by: pepi, 09-03-2010 02:09 PM (#1)

Hi,
Bought 3 hub 2's in a desperate attempt to start with the correct unit. I now have every version by the looks of the threads. Type B not editable Type A as per original pics and Type A with 8 pads in a changed position on mother board.
I have completed soldering 6" x 5 core cable from mother board to 25 pin male with 4 integral 100k resistors and am now busy getting my head around the dumps and re flashing files, procedures and pitfalls from earlier threads in your forums to reduce hair loss and future ear ache from the wife. If it goes wrong is there a chance that I could fry the board ? Is the flash reversable via 2 backups ? So I can start again from scratch? Working nights only 3 hours sleep a day will start after I get a full 8 hours sleep and a clear head.
Which is the latest download version Please ?
Regards
Pepi

I know how you feel. I do nightshifts during critical work periods as well. Usually takes me best part of a week to sleep properly during the day then bam back on days!

Ok to business.
The latest version is the 8.1.H.J download here:
http://www.psidoc...php?did=10

The full backups make for a good confirmation that the cable you have made is correct and that the backups are good.
Yes they can be used for recovery purposes, as can the custom.bin in the "Any Other Firmware folder" that we use if the home hub is NOT running 8.1.H.J alread as it is a repair flash in itself.
Just remember if you want to use your own backup the command is slightly different to flash it. To avoid confusion I will not post it here but if you need it pm me.
With regards to getting it wrong you cannot fry the board but there is remote opossibility of bricking it (non boot due to software). I have bricked my test router on countless occasions while doing R&D and after a repair flash it's still running now. So I am confident we can save it if you do. As far as I know we have never lost a router to a bad flash.

Regards,

Psi

The TG797n firmware will be made available to new donators once it has been received & tested by the original donators.. so "yes" Watch this space!

do you need anymore for the tg797n fund?

19/08/2010 18:47
Probably, but you'll have to work out the command line structure for the software for your USB JTAG
