Hacking the Home Hub V1 and 1.5

In the article linked above I have detailed the method of changing the firmware from the BT Strangled versions to the Speedtouch 790 unlocked version. This opens up the router's capability whislt retaining the full DECT functionality as well as VOIP etc.

It's been established that the USB isn't working for file sharing. I am sorry about that.
Having tried all the ST7G and 790 firmware variants it seems it doesn't work on all of them.

Hi Psi!

Thanks a lot for your guide to unlocking BT Home Hub v1.5 ... I got it 'box packed' but it was just gathering dust Frown... now its unlocked and you would be happy to know that its working well with the ISPs in Pakistan! Grin And best of all its going to save me quite a lot of money!

Thanks for the tutorial and files for hacking the Home Hub, I eventually found that I needed to change my printer port settings in BIOS to ECP to get the JTAG cable to work properly on my Acer laptop. I also had a problem with the readme.doc included in the download package where it should say :-

Flashing the CFE:
1: Type “brjtag -flash:custom /window:1F400000 /start:1F400000 /length:0040000 /bypass /forcealign” into the dos window

But says (extra brjtag) :-
Flashing the CFE:
1: Type “ brjtag brjtag -flash:custom /window:1F400000 /start:1F400000 /length:0040000 /bypass /forcealign” into the dos window

Once I realised what was the problem, everything went great, maybe it would be worth either altering the readme doc or putting a description on the download page about the double britag command as most folk have a chance to be off-line while doing the hack and like I was and used the readme.doc. Maybe a mention about trying different printer port modes would be good too, I hadn't used the laptops printer port till now, if this has already been mentioned I seem to have missed it in my rush to try this out Wink

Blimey, this sounds more like a moan than an observation (not meant to), I am over the moon to have succeeded with the hacking and am now connected to TalkTalk and everything is working fine Wink

All the very best,
Allen Smile

Hi All and Psi
I have one BT Homehub 1.0 (white version) and wanted to completly unlock it in order to get full functionality of it, including SIP.

I have followed Psi instructions:
1) built a JTAG cable
2) Flashed CFE successfuly
3) Set Fixed IP on my laptop
4) Enter in Kernel model
5) Run the upgradeST.exe
6) It detects by speedtouch, as CANT-A board, version 6.2.6.14.0
7) Next step I choose one of the 3 CANT-A bin, e.g., 7.4.1.7.0 and press next
8) Start the upgrade
a)detects by devide
b) option to backup current configuration is grayed out therefore moves straight way to start the devide in upgrade mode, and successfully does it
c) At "The new system is being transferred" stage, the modem restarts and I get an error saying "failed to transfer system software, the device is not responding anymore!"

I have read everywhere and cannot understand what am I doing wrong or what is wrong with my modem.

Can anyone shed any light on that?

thanks a lot

As with regards to my previous post, I figured out that it was my firewall that was blocking the communications with the router. I decided to post it here in case someone else in the future faces the same problem.

Modem is now working very well, including Voip functionalities. thanks to all and in special to Psidoc for hard work and dedication - it is helping a lot of people

Ah firewalls.
You do realise the Home hub has an inbuilt firewall that is arguably better than ANY software firewall you can install on your PC. I haven't used firewall software since I got router.

The TG797n firmware will be made available to new donators once it has been received & tested by the original donators.. so "yes" Watch this space!

do you need anymore for the tg797n fund?

19/08/2010 18:47
Probably, but you'll have to work out the command line structure for the software for your USB JTAG
