  Editing the ADSL settings.
by: GK200, 14-02-2010 08:44 PM (#1)

I have the BT Home Hub 2 all flashed and unlocked. My ISP is O2 but I am unsure how to define the settings required for this broadband provider. I need to enter VPI and VCI values etc but cannot find how to input them. There is no obvious place in the web based GUI and after messing around with Telnet I am still drawing a blank (possibly I'm not looking in the right place. Can anyone help?Shock

I assume you are using 02's llu service else it would work straight off the bat.
OK. How to get the right vpi/vci

Login via telnet with root access on 192.168.1.254
The type in:
Download source  Code
atm phonebook list

The reply should be:
Download source  Code
Name         Use  Address
pvc_Internet 1    0.38

Then type
Download source  Code
 atm phonebook flush

Then type (for 02's LLU service):
Download source  Code
atm phonebook add name=pvc_Internet addr=0.103

Then don't forget to save it else it'll lose the setting if you power off!
Type:
Download source  Code
saveall

Note VPI = 0 VCI = 103 in the atm command above. edit that accordingly if different.

HTH.

I gave this a go.

"ATM PHONEBOOK FLUSH" in Telnet, it replied with:

Some phonebook entries are still in use. Entries that are in use cannot be deleted.

Not sure what to try next?

Unplug the router from the phoneline first.

The router is disconnected from the phoneline but still it gives the same message. Is there a way to force it to stop using the phone book entries?

Firstly. Sorry for not replying till now. Have been away from home with work.
Ok I have a solution for you. It's a bit of mucking about but it does work.

Download and install Core FtpLITE to your PC. Well use this FTP program as it works. However if you have your own that will upload to the router then ignore this setp.

Reset the router to defaults.
Telnet in on 192.168.1.254 username: guru password: guru
Then issue the following command:
Download source  Code
saveall

Now FTP in on 192.168.1.254 same username and password as above.
Find the user.ini file and download it to your PC.

Open the user.ini file and edit the following.

In the env.ini section:
Download source  Code
set var=CONF_SERVICE value="Routed PPPoA on 0.38"
Change to:
set var=CONF_SERVICE value="Routed PPPoA on 0.103"

In the phone.ini section:
Download source  Code
add name=pvc_Internet addr=0*38
Change to:
add name=pvc_Internet addr=0*103

Now save the file
Back in the ftp program upload the user.ini file back to the router, overwriting the old one.

Power cycle the router.

Viola!

Basically what we have done above is manually edited the user settings (user.ini) offline to get the changes you need.
The saveall command creates the user.ini
Then we ftp it out to bypass the encryption that BT put in when backing up the configuration.
Editing is the simple bit!
FTPing back the user.ini bypasses the router expecting an encrypted file.

That will survive powering off, but will NOT survive a reset to defaults.

I feel like I'm starting to get somewhere now. The VPI/VCI settings are now changed.

QoS appears to already on UBR and MTU set at 1500.

Do I need to set multiplexing at LLC and if so how can I do this? There is a VCMUX reference in the atm section. Should I change it here?

Also does the router need to be in a bridged mode. My old router had to be set to "RFC 1483 Bridged".

As you have probably realized I am a bit of a beginner at this so the help is very much appreciated.

Beginner? Nah! You managed to reflash the home hub which is the biggest step of all so fair play to you.
Also you're the first person we know of that has an LLU connection and wants to use a Home Hub on it, so it'd be good to get this working as it's more info to add to the site.

Anyway to business.
Just found this which should be a great help: http://www.o2user...dband.html
The part we are interested in is this:

* ISP name: O2 Home Broadband
* Multiplexing method: LLC-Based
* VPI: 0
* VCI: 101
* Username: leave blank
* Password: leave blank
* Domain name: leave blank
* IP address type: this depends on whether you chose our static IP address option or not:
* - If you didn’t choose O2's static IP address option, set this to dynamic IP
* - If you did choose O2's static IP address, enter the IP address printed in your welcome letter
* DNS servers: choose to get these dynamically from the Internet provider
* NAT: enable

Looks like I goofed on the VCI - sorry.

The changes you need to make are:
Download source  Code

Env.ini:
set var=CONF_SERVICE value="Routed PPPoA on 0.38"
Change to:
set var=CONF_SERVICE value="Routed PPPoA on 0.101"

Phone.ini:
add name=pvc_Internet addr=0*38
Change to:
add name=pvc_Internet addr=0*101

Atm.ini
ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet encaps=vcmux ulp=ppp
Change to:
ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet encaps=llc ulp=mac

Reading on the scream forum someone did manage to get a version 1 Home Hub working on O2 LLU just changing the VCI to 101 without the atm_Internet line changes, so theres another option.

Let us know how you go with it mate.

I've still not connected to the internet, but there is some progress. The router now knows that it is connecting in ETHoA (the web GUI tells me), I think setting the ulp to mac did that.

One thing I have noticed is that I edit the user.ini to:

ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet encaps=llc ulp=mac

but after a power reset it changed to

ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet ulp=mac

loosing the encapsulation.

Again, I am lost.

OK. put that line back as it was originally and try it.

** Edit ** Just tried what I suggested in my last post on my test router and nothing was removed not the encaps=llc or anything.
Perhaps you left a space in the command?

After a couple additional attempts the LLC setting has taken. Not sure what happened the first time.

Still no internet connection yet.

What is the broadband light doing? Is it flashing orange then going solid orange? Is it going solid red? Just flashing orange?
Also power cycle the router and paste a copy of the eventlog in this thread. [TroubleShooting] >> [EventLog] in the web interface. I need about the first 90 seconds worth of eventlog. That should tell use what's happening.

The broadband light flashes orange for about 2 minutes and then turns solid orange.

We're almost there!
This line is good.
Download source  Code
01:01:21 1 Jan xDSL linestate up (ITU-T G.992.3; downstream: 6587 kbit/s, upstream: 1230 kbit/s; output Power Down: 19.6 dBm, Up: 12.4 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 43.0 dB, Up: 25.4 dB; snr Margin Down: 6.1 dB, Up: 6.0 dB )

It means we are syncing with the server. It's just the talking bit we need to fix.

A few suggestions.
1: Revert the line:
Download source  Code
ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet encaps=llc ulp=mac

to the original:
Download source  Code
ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet encaps=vcmux ulp=ppp

And try that.

If that fails try this:
Download source  Code
ifconfig intf=atm_Internet dest=pvc_Internet encaps=llc ulp=ip

OK. reading here
Note: I know it's BE and not 02 but they use the same settings as BE lease their LLU product off 02
You don't need to use bridge mode. Although this caught my eye.
You may have to wait up to 40 minutes before your BeBox gets an internet IP and the internet starts working.

That's down the the MAC address being different. Only thing I can suggest is let it have some time to adapt and connect.

I have now tried each permutation of the settings we have discussed so far and left the router connected to the phone line for a minimum of 40 minutes each time.

Unfortunately my little orange broadband light refuses to turn blue.

Hi,

Event log posted below. This is with the ETHoA setup.
I have also noticed that in Advanced settings under Broadband, all of the TCP/IP values are given as "Not available". Would this contribute?

Stupid question I know but you are clicking the connect button on the broadband page aren't you?
I see no kind no kind of connection attempt there at all.
It's syncing up fine which means our settings are good.
